This week we had a chat to Neil Pattison from Whistling Buoy – a family owned winery and vineyard on the Banks Peninsula. His favourite wine of the moment is their 2016 vintage Whistling Buoy Half Acre Pinot Noir – with flavours of bright cherries, strawberries and brambles, as well as sweet vanillin on the nose and palate. It is fleshy, spicy and toasty with great tannin structure.⠀ ⠀ This wine comes from their originally planted vineyard in Charteris Bay. For the real wine connoisseurs out there, you can purchase all three vintages of Half Acre Pinot Noir (2016, 2017,& 2018) to make the comparison. Because their wines are from a single vineyard, i.e. not blended, it you'll be able to really taste the differences of each growing year🍷

@greystonewines Sauvignon Blanc 2018 was the top scoring NZ sauvignon in the latest Robert Parker Wine Advocate report in USA, as well as making an appearance in the @decanter top 25 NZ Sauvignon list. In fact, this wine has a fair few awards under its belt! ⠀ ⠀ Wild fermented, certified organic and naturally fermented in old oak barriques – this one is good pick for those who like their Sauvignon with a little more texture and richness 👍
Anyone else a fan of this one? Ahuriri Run Pinot Gris 2017 by Cross Hares Wine. Complex and engaging, excellent fruit intensity, long lasting and succulent. 5 stars on Wine Orbit (naturally!) 👏

Wine of the week from the team at @pegasusbaywine ✨ ⠀ ⠀ "“Bel Canto is the driest of the five different Riesling styles we produce at Pegasus Bay. It’s a very distinctive wine produced from late picked fruit including a portion of botrytis fermented dry. The resulting wine is a big rich multi-layer example of the variety with distinct regional characters of orange zest and spice.”⠀ ⠀ Anyone tried this one?

@esses_house_of_bubbles are a small boutique grower that specialise in Vintage Méthode Traditionelle. They are nestled between the Seaward Kaikōura ranges and Kaikōura peninsula and have a unique microclimate that is perfect for making bubbles. They focus on doing everything on the vineyard by hand, using full French methods with an emphasis on sustainability. Each vintage is reflective of the season. Lady Syme is their 2014 Vintage Brut Cuvée. This is made with premium chardonnay and pinot noir grapes, hand selected on the vine at time of harvest. This Cuvée is not only exceptional on the palate but also holds within it stories of adventure and boundless friendship (due to battling closed roads, floods, and cyclones to get it harvested!). It has been rated 95/100. Coeur de Cuvée 2015 Vintage Brut Cuvée is ‘the heart of the free run juice’. The chardonnay grapes in this Blanc de Blanc were gently pressed in a traditional wooden basket press, only releasing the premium quality free flowing juice. This is a 2015 vintage that has been aged for nearly 45 months, creating depth and complexity of flavours. It has been rated 94/100. There’s a new kid on the North Cantebrury block! Meet @mauiwines (little brother label of @tikiwines produced by the McKean whānau). TIKI was named after Royce McKean’s great grandfather Ngati Uenuku Chieftain, Tike Tere Mihi. Their new label MAUI honours the legendary demigod Maui, who captured the sun and pulled the North Island out of the sea. • “Maui was a great adventurer with an inquisitive nature and fearless spirit.
